What data we collect

Privado collects no personal data. We do not collect names, email addresses, browsing history, or any identifying information.

Translation processing

Text you translate may be sent to third-party services depending on the mode you choose:

Local mode (Chrome AI / Gemini Nano): Translation happens entirely on your device. No text leaves your computer.
Machine mode (free fallback): Text is sent to translate.googleapis.com, Google's publicly accessible translation endpoint (unofficial, no SLA). Google may log these requests. This is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
API Key mode: Text is sent directly to the provider you configured (DeepL, OpenAI, Google Gemini, or a custom endpoint). Your API key is stored locally in Chrome's storage.local and is never sent to our servers — it goes only to the provider's own endpoint.

Local storage

Privado stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's storage.local API:

Your chosen translation mode and display preferences
The list of sites where translation is disabled
Your target language selection
Your API key and provider settings (if configured)
Cached translation results (optional, to reduce API usage)

This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us.

Permissions explained

<all_urls>: Required to inject the bilingual translation UI into web pages you visit. We only process page text — we do not read passwords, form inputs, or other sensitive fields.
storage: To save your preferences locally.
scripting / activeTab: To run the translation content script on the current tab.

Third-party services

When using Machine mode, requests go to Google's translation API. We have no control over how Google processes those requests. Please review Google's Privacy Policy for details.

Children's privacy

Privado is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we will update the "Last updated" date above and note the change in the extension's release notes.
